Mas aresi; What means the name of the Greek eShop?

what means masaresi
We are very happy to announce that in May 2019, this Greek eShop masaresi.com went online.
When you start a new website, eShop or Business, the first thing you usually see or hear is “the name”.

Maybe I did not choose the easiest name to remember? Maybe you are wondering why I did not opt for something referring to Greece, or “Greek shop”?
Well, I love the sound of the Greek language, and when you manage to remember the name, then you will also know a very useful sentence in Greek, which you can use on a daily basis.

So what’s in this name “masaresi”?
For sure it is modern Greek, but what does it mean exactly? I am happy to explain it to you!

Mas aresi – (or in Greek written as: μας αρέσει) means:  “We like it” in Greek. If you would like to know how to pronounce it, then click here to watch the video.

In that language video, a teacher at the Omilo Greek Language and Culture School, explains how to say such useful phrases as I like it, Do you like it, I do not like it, etc.

Now that you have gotten a taste of Greek in a video lesson, here below also the written explanations:

Just in case you do not know how to read the Greek Alphabet, do not worry, you can see it written in “Greeklish” (Greek written with Latin letters) in the right column.

Μ’αρέσει ο καφες.            I like coffee            (m’aresi o kafes)
Μ’αρέσει η μουσική.         Ι like music            (m’aresi i mousiki)
Μ’αρέσει το θέατρο.         I like theatre           (m’aresi to theatro)
Μ’αρέσει η Ελλάδα.         I like Greece           (m’aresi i ellada)

When you want to say “we like”, instead of “I like”, then you simply start with “mas” at the beginning of your sentence and you say:
Μας αρέσει η μουσική.     We like music        (mas aresi i mousiki)
Μας αρέσει το θέατρο.      We like theatre      (mas aresi to theatro)
Μας αρέσει η Ελλάδα!      We like Greece!     (mas aresi i ellada)

Questions Greeks might ask you are:

Σ’άρεσει …;                 Do you like…?                               (S’aresi.. ?)

Σ’άρεσει η Ελλάδα;     Do you like Greece?                      (S’aresi i ellada?)

Σ’άρεσει το Ελληνικό φαγητό; Do you like Greek food?    (S’aresi to elliniko fagito?)

You can answer those questions easily as follows:

Ναι, μ΄αρέσει.          Yes, I like (it).                                    (Ne, m’aresi)
or
Οχι, δεν μ’αρέσει.     No, I do not like (it).                          (Ochi, den m’aresi)

Ναι, μας αρέσει.        Yes, we like (it).                                (Ne, mas aresi)
or
Οχι, δεν μας αρέσει. No, we do not like (it).                       (Ochi, den mas aresi)

M’αρέσει πολύ! I like it a lot!                                               (M’aresi poli)

Mας αρέσει πολύ! We like it a lot!                                      (Mas aresi poli)

I hope you will join us in exploring the Greek language, art, and culture of Greece today, and of course, we hope you will soon say,
“I like the eShop masaresi.com a lot”!

M’αρέσει το «masaresi.com» πολύ! 😊                          (M’aresi to “masaresi.com” polί!)
