The Greek Song “It is never cold in Greece” , by the popular Greek music band Locomondo, was released in 2014,
and ever since a song you will hear regularly on the radio, beach, or parties..
This upbeat song brings us in a nice summer mood and gives us indeed the feeling it is never cold in Greece!
But do not forget! Greece also has 4 seasons, and winter does exist!
However, most tourists usually visit Greece in the summer season, and in summer…it is really never cold 🙂
Who are Locomondo?
- Locomondo is probably the most known Reggae band in Greece, as well as the only Greek group that has recorded in Jamaica.
- They have released 8 albums, including Locomondo Live!, an album that turned gold in December 2011.
- The first Album was a reggae cover of the Rembetiko song Frangosyriani composed in 1935 by the very known composer and rembetis Markos Vamvakaris.
- The second hit of this album was Den kani kryo stin Ellada (its not cold in Greece), a hymn to a positive way of thinking.
This song became very popular and most likely the band’s most known song.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION
is never cold in Greece
it has never been cold
you can come tonight to feel
like you’ve never felt before
Want to take a ride
to a magical country
where everyone claims
they are experts on fun
But laughing is losing
this is the rule
and if you dare to dance
you are threatened with exclusion
It is never cold in Greece
it has never been cold
you can come tonight to feel
like you’ve never felt before
Between the abyss of sorrow
and the meadows of joy
there is a small door
which is up to you to open this night wants to party
wants to sweat and to be loud
doesn’t want a trendy show
and a miserable distressIt is never cold in Greece
it has never been cold
you can come tonight to feel
like you’ve never felt beforeBecome the child of the Sun
and the laughter of fire
this is the real power
to break any chain
Full of passionate sweat
hug me there is love everywhere
and if you feel like it, kiss me
let the sky reveal its stars
It is never cold in Greece
it has never been cold
you can come tonight to feel
like you’ve never felt before
So, It is never cold in Greece? Is it a myth or the truth? What do you believe?
Μύθος ή όχι; Κάνει κρύο στην Ελλάδα ή όχι;
Truth is, in Greece it can get really cold, and it also has many ski-centers.
In February 2021 a lot of snow was falling in Athens, and in January 2022 even more snow came…leading to total chaos, and closing down of the Athens airport for several days.
That experience and week of “snow in Athens”, gave Maya the inspiration to write a Podcast Story. A story which took place in real, and is for 95% based on true facts.

I love this song!!! What a nice way to be introduced to Greek songs (this is my first).
And there’s more to it than meets the eye. Isn’it?
